Reduce a scanned PDF for a 100 KB or 200 KB upload limit

Use a target-size search, understand image-only output and decide when further compression makes a scan unreadable.

Remove only unnecessary material

Keep every page required by the portal. If the instructions allow a subset, extract that subset first. Do not delete a certificate reverse side, stamp or declaration just to meet a size limit. Work on a copy of the source.

Set the real KB target

Open Compress to target size, select the PDF and enter the portal maximum. The tool first tries lossless rewriting, then tests image resolutions and JPEG quality. Raster attempts are limited to 20 pages; the smallest tested output may still exceed your target.

Check the consequence of image output

Raster output turns pages into images. Selectable text, interactive fields and links are lost. Do not use it for an editable form, a document requiring accessibility structure, or a certificate-backed signature you need to preserve.

Review readability and stop when necessary

Open every output page at normal reading size and zoom into names, dates and stamps. If text is damaged, use a clearer scan or consult the portal’s permitted alternatives. A target-not-reached message is preferable to submitting an illegible document.
