What you get when you split a PDF

Each selected page becomes its own one-page PDF, named after its page number in the original, such as page-2.pdf and page-5.pdf. Choose one page and you download a single PDF. Choose several, or leave the box empty to split every page, and they arrive together in one ZIP file.

The pages keep their content and selectable text, and your original file is not changed. To keep a few pages together as one document, such as pages 3 to 5 of a contract, use Extract Pages: Split PDF always makes one file per page.

How to split a PDF

  1. Select a PDF from your device. Count pages from the first page of the file, including any cover, rather than using printed page labels.
  2. Enter a range such as 1-3, 5 to select four pages, or leave the range blank to split every page. Each selected page becomes a separate PDF.
  3. Select Split PDF and download. Extract a multi-file ZIP using your device file manager, then open the PDFs to check their contents.

A practical example

For a five-page report, entering 2-3, 5 produces individual files for pages 2, 3 and 5. To keep those three pages together in one PDF instead, use Extract Pages.

How is splitting different from extracting pages?

Split PDF produces separate one-page PDFs in a ZIP. Extract Pages combines your chosen pages into one new PDF. Choose the output that matches the recipient requirements.

What is the difference between Split PDF and Extract Pages?

Split PDF creates one PDF per selected page, packaging multiple files in a ZIP. Extract Pages creates one PDF containing the selected pages together. Neither changes the original file on your device.

How do I open the ZIP on my phone?

Save the download, then use the Extract or Uncompress action in your phone file manager. Open the extracted PDF files in a PDF viewer. If you only need a single combined selection and cannot use ZIP files, choose Extract Pages instead.

Can I split a PDF into two halves or chapters?

Use Extract Pages once for each part. For a 20-page file, extract 1-10 and then 11-20 to get two PDFs. Split PDF would instead give you 20 separate one-page files.

Where is my document processed?

Document processing runs in your browser. This tool does not upload your document for processing. Optional analytics measures visits and tool events only after you allow it; it does not receive your document content or filenames. Read the privacy policy.
