Convert JPG and WebP images to PNG files. PNG encoding is lossless, but conversion cannot recover detail already lost in a JPG.

A practical example

Convert an image to PNG for an editor or workflow that requires PNG input. Existing pixels are re-encoded; the conversion does not redraw or sharpen the subject.

Check the result

Check the result in the destination application. Lossless PNG encoding preserves what is available in the input, including any compression artifacts already baked into a JPG.

If the result is not right

If a PNG exceeds an upload limit, do not assume something failed. Photos often produce larger PNG files; use a permitted JPG/WebP format or reduce dimensions when the destination allows it.

Before you download

Does PNG conversion restore lost JPG detail?

No. PNG encoding is lossless, but converting an already compressed JPG cannot reconstruct detail that was discarded earlier.
