About this page numbers tool

Add page numbers at the top or bottom, aligned left, center or right. Set the starting number, selected page range, font size and margin. Use {n} for sequence, {total} for selected-page count and {page} for original page index. Existing content is retained; cropped and rotated pages are respected.

When to use this tool

Number a report using a starting value, position and selected page range.

Get started in three steps

  1. Choose your PDF file from your device.
  2. Choose a position with enough clear margin. Set the page range, starting number and format, then review the PDF.
  3. Select Page numbers, review the result and download your file.

A practical example

Number the body of a report while leaving its cover untouched. Select the body’s page range, set the starting number and choose a bottom position with enough blank margin.

Check the result

Check the first and last numbered pages. {n} is the sequence, {page} is the original page index, and {total} counts selected pages; these can differ when a cover is excluded.

If the result is not right

If numbers collide with footnotes or artwork, change the position, margin or size. Existing printed numbers are not removed, so decide whether a second numbering system will confuse readers.

Can the printed number differ from the original page index?

Yes. Use {n} for the sequence, {page} for the original page index and {total} for selected-page count. Choose your starting number and inspect margins before distributing.
