About this protect pdf tool

Add AES-256 password encryption locally in a dedicated browser worker. Text, pages, bookmarks and standard forms are retained. Keep your password safe: it is not stored or recoverable here. Existing digital signatures may become invalid.

When to use this tool

Add a password before sharing a PDF that should not be opened freely.

From file to finished in three steps

  2. Use a long, unique password of at least 8 characters. The local engine downloads on first use; your PDF and password stay on this device.

Before you download

Can PaperLumo recover a forgotten password?

No. The password is used locally and is not stored or recoverable here. Keep it separately and securely. Re-encrypting a signed PDF can invalidate the existing signature.

Where is my document processed?

Document processing runs in your browser. This tool does not upload your document for processing. Optional analytics measures page visits only after you allow it; it does not receive your document content. Read the privacy policy.
