About this edit metadata tool

Update the PDF document title, author and subject fields. These properties may appear in PDF viewers and file information panels.

When to use this tool

Correct the document properties shown by PDF viewers and file information panels.

Get started in three steps

  1. Select your PDF. If you need to preserve existing values, inspect them first with PDF Info or your PDF viewer.
  2. Enter the desired Document title, Author and Subject. All three values are written on save; leaving an input blank clears that standard property.
  3. Run Edit Metadata and download the new file. Reopen that downloaded copy in PDF Info or your viewer document-properties panel to check the values.

A practical example

To change the author of a report to your organization, enter the organization name in Author and also enter the title and subject you want to keep. This changes document properties, not the author credit printed on a page.

Before you download

Does changing the title property change page text?

No. Metadata properties are separate from the visible page content. Use Edit PDF when the text printed on a page needs changing.

Does editing PDF metadata rename the file?

No. The document title property, downloaded filename and text printed on a page are separate. Rename the downloaded file on your device if needed. Use Edit PDF for supported changes to visible page text.

Does changing the author remove every trace of the previous author?

No. This tool edits standard title, author and subject properties only. Other metadata, annotations, attachments or visible text may still contain names. Remove Metadata clears standard metadata and document-level XMP, but is not a complete privacy scrub. Review sensitive content separately.

Where is my document processed?

Document processing runs in your browser. This tool does not upload your document for processing. Optional analytics measures visits and tool events only after you allow it; it does not receive your document content or filenames. Read the privacy policy.
